The counties of Forsyth and Guilford were included in an urgent message Friday morning as temperatures are expected to soar to nearly triple-digit territory.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory will span from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., during which time the heat index could reach 105 degrees.
“Temperatures will be slow to fall below 80 degrees tonight, especially in urban areas,” the agency advised.
The advisory included several tips for avoiding potentially serious heat-related illness.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors,” the statement advised.
When outside, the NWS encourages locals to wear lightweight, loose garments and avoid strenuous activities during the heat of the day.
“Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke,” the advisory continued.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration offered its recommendation for those working outdoors during a heat advisory, stressing the importance of frequent breaks in the shade or an air-conditioned location.
As the advisory concluded: “Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911.”
