There was a heavy police presence at the Food Lion on Union Cross Road on Wednesday morning due to what the Kernersville Police Department described as an “isolated incident” involving a shooting at the location.

In a social media update, the agency indicated that a “subject of interest has been identified.”

A subsequent post confirmed that a male subject was found inside the supermarket with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities advised that there was “no threat to the public” and encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact the KPD by calling 336-996-3177.

The Kernersville Police Department did not immediately respond to Scope News Kernersville’s request for comment. We will provide additional details when they become available.
