A honey-themed tradition decades in the making will bring family-friendly activities and more than 100 vendors of all sorts to Fourth of July Park, 702 West Mountain Street, this weekend. The rain-or-shine event will last from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The annual Honeybee Festival traces its roots back more than half a century to local resident Brady Mullinax’s effort to recognize the honeybee as North Carolina’s state insect. His advocacy paid off and led to the creation of a festival that has grown immensely over the course of the subsequent years.
Kernersville Parks and Recreation organizes the festival. Scope News recently spoke to Recreation Superintendent Cady Ray about the history of the Honeybee Festival and why Fourth of July Park is such an ideal location.
