There is still more than a month left in summer, and locals now have a new spot to beat the heat with a cold treat.
After establishing popular locations in Archdale and Thomasville, Sam and Brandy Tokhy opened a third ice cream shop this week on South Main Street in Kernersville.
Sam Tokhy spoke to Scope News about why he felt the time was right to bring Brandy’s Ice Cream to the Heart of the Triad, which is where his wife was raised.
“Kernersville is a growing city,” he said. “From when she was growing up going to school here compared to now, it’s really growing fast.”
After doing their research and determining that this community could benefit from a new ice cream shop, the Tokhys decided to pursue the opportunity.
“We wanted to put our foot in the door before anybody else comes,” Sam Tokhy said.
He pointed to an extensive menu as one factor that sets Brandy’s apart, noting that the shop offers 60 flavors of ice cream, including non-dairy, sugar-free, and vegan options.
Toppings, including brownies baked daily, are made fresh instead of purchased from a supplier.
“We make our own pineapples, strawberries, and wet walnuts in house,” he said, referencing the various sundae options.
But the item that gained the most attention in Archdale, Tokhy said, is the customizable banana split.
“They’re big enough for two people to share,” he said. “So that’s what kind of put us on the map, so to speak.”
Another crowd-pleaser is the option to pile on complimentary toppings, he said, explaining: “Even if it’s a small cup, you can add 20 toppings on there and it’s all free.”
In addition to ice cream, the menu includes a variety of specialty drinks including a creation Tokhy described as a mix between boba and an ice cream float.
Brandy’s Ice Cream is located at 838D South Main Street and opens at noon Tuesday through Sunday.
