Local leaders have discussed the need for a new recreation and event center for decades, and such a facility is now moving ever closer to completion.
Construction is ongoing at the project site near the intersection of Union Cross Road and Shields Road several months after a groundbreaking ceremony.
Kernersville Parks and Recreation touted the progress in a recent social media statement, describing the building as “90% complete.”
An indoor track has already been installed and landscaping is complete in the area surrounding the building.
Recreation Superintendent Cady Ray recently highlighted some of the facility’s notable features, including several anticipated programs and benefits that go beyond typical recreation center offerings.

If progress continues as anticipated, the new facility is on track to celebrate its grand opening in December and begin offering various programs by early 2025.
