The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Thursday that 34-year-old James Wilford Huff had been arrested as part of a child abuse investigation in Walkertown.
Huff’s arrest came just over a month after deputies responded to a call in the 6000 block of Cain Forest Drive in response to reports of an injured child.
At the time, authorities were reportedly told that the juvenile spilled boiling water, resulting in the injuries. Investigators later determined that the child was placed in a bathtub filled with scalding hot water.
Huff was placed in custody with secured bond set at $300,000 ahead of a scheduled court appearance on Friday. He faces one criminal count of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury.
Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough released a statement on the matter, asserting that any “threat or harm to our children becomes a priority” to the agency.
“As we have stated, our most precious asset is our children, who are our future, and the FCSO will do everything earthly possible to serve and protect them,” he added.
The agency urged those with information related to any suspected criminal activity in Forsyth County to contact authorities by calling 336-727-2112, sending anonymous information via Text-A-Tip at 336-920-8477, or contacting Crimestoppers at 336-727-2800 for English and 336-728-3904 for Spanish. Anonymous information related to juvenile behavior can be reported to the Juvenile Intervention and Investigation Team by calling 336-917-7030.
