A new local charitable organization is collecting resources to provide area families with some essentials for a Thanksgiving meal, and Next Step Ministries is on board to help distribute the “blessing baskets” ahead of the holiday.
“Each basket will provide food items such as canned goods of corn, green beans, rolls, potatoes, and gravy for a Thanksgiving meal, and also the plates, napkins, and plasticware,” said April Scott of As If Creative Ministry.
She told Scope News that this is her organization’s first project, explaining that she and her two children began the ministry as a way “to give back to families in need” after they went through several challenges of their own.
Although Next Step Ministries will help identify families in this community, Scott said that the baskets “can be delivered anywhere if we have volunteers in other areas interested in working with us to prepare baskets and coordinate the deliveries.”
In addition to requesting monetary donations to offset the cost of the baskets, she said individuals can nominate families they believe would benefit from receiving one.
Next Step Ministries Community Victim Services Director Christina Alvaro stressed the value of such community outreach to victims of domestic violence, particularly during the holidays.
“Receiving blessing baskets can help individuals and families feel loved on Thanksgiving and instill a sense of hope for the future,” she said. “We are very grateful that As If Creative Ministry reached out and wanted to help out the families we work with. Thanksgiving is all about gratitude and giving back, and we appreciate all of the support and love from the community.”
