Byrdhouse Books Prepares For Grand Opening

Months of hard work are paying off for local entrepreneur Jordan Byrd, whose new downtown shop Byrdhouse Books will be celebrating its grand opening on Saturday.

She told Scope News that the outpouring of support from locals — particularly fellow business owners — has been a constant source of encouragement.

“Kernersville has truly embraced Byrdhouse Books, and seeing the community come together has reinforced why I wanted to open the store in the first place,” Byrd said. “As an entrepreneur, it’s a reminder that I’m not doing this alone.”

The bookstore, located at 103 North Main Street beside Hedgecock Framing Studio, has undergone significant renovations to transform into the retail space Byrd envisioned. Although this process was “definitely more challenging” than she anticipated, she credited a team effort for ensuring everything ultimately fell into place.

“There were so many details that had to be managed, and it felt like something new would come up every day,” Byrd explained. “I’m so thankful for the support of my contractor, Stephen Casper with Top Choice services, for handling all of the nitty gritty — also to my family and friends who put together shelves, hung pictures, did [do-it-yourself projects], and helped me push through those tough days.”

Now she is looking forward to welcoming the community to her new store, which will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The first five customers to make a purchase that day will receive a “special giveaway tote filled with goodies,” Byrd explained.

She said other upcoming special events at the store will include a murder mystery scheduled for October 12 and “Reading Time with Molly,” an October 18 event during which her fiance, Kernersville Police Officer Samuel Slyman, “will be reading in uniform with our Great Dane to the kids.”

Looking ahead to Saturday, Byrd concluded: “It’s been a dream for so long, and the grand opening is going to be such a special moment for me and everyone involved.”
