Lions Club Selects Former President Larry Martin To Serve Another Term

One of Kernersville’s most active civic organizations has a new leader following a recent induction ceremony.

Larry Martin, who previously served as Kernersville Lions Club president in 2017 and 2018, has been selected to serve in the same position again for the 2024-2025 term.

The incoming president has been a member of the local Lions Club since 1968, roughly three decades after the Kernersville chapter received its charter. He has lived in this community for nearly 60 years and retired in 2008 from his position as a real estate broker for Berkshire Hathaway.

As for his priority this year, Miller said he is interested in increasing the club’s membership.

“If you would like to be involved in your community, work to make it the best it can be, and join a great group of men and women, then this is the club for you,” he said.

The Kernersville chapter has embraced the International Lions Club mission of humanitarian outreach by engaging in a variety of efforts to assist those living with disabilities — particularly vision loss — across the community and around the world.

“The club visits local elementary schools every year with equipment similar to what is used in a professional eye doctor’s office,” Martin explained. “It is amazing how many kids have difficulty seeing … which results in difficulty learning. If a problem is identified and parents are unable to provide the medical care needed, the club refers the child to a local eye doctor for additional eye exams and corrective lenses.”

Among the various fundraisers hosted by the Kernersville Lions Club are a “reverse raffle,” a vintage car show, and the sale of cooked pork butts.

“We all work really hard,” the club’s president concluded. “The more money we can raise, the more we can distribute throughout our community.”
