Project Short Street empowers small farmers, producers, and culinary entrepreneurs by providing mentorship and resources to help them thrive and build a more sustainable food community.

“Our goal is for Kernersville to be known as the culinary nucleus in the Piedmont,” Director of Business Development Lisa McMullen told Scope News. “[We] are planning subsequent culinary competitions and events that also include participation in the competition by the community.”

Originally, ticket proceeds benefited Project Short Street’s charity organization called Harvest Hub to help budding food entrepreneurs grow, but after Hurricane Helene, its focus shifted to Western North Carolina.

“We pride ourselves on the ability to pivot when the community needs call for attention and support,” said McMullen.

The organization has already collected food donations and prepared hot meals for families in need as well as the frontline emergency workers and volunteers at the outlying command centers.
