East Forsyth Keeps Winning Streak Alive

The East Forsyth Eagles stay at the top of the mountain after a 61-14 victory over the R.J. Reynolds Demons.

Last week, the Eagles’ running backs were dealing with minor injuries. Head coach Todd Willert rested them and relied on his receiving corps for five of East Forsyth’s seven offensive touchdowns.

This week, the backfield was back to 100%. Cannen Rottweiler scored two rushing touchdowns and Corey Blair and Jus Lewis each had one.

Quarterback Bryce Baker scored three different ways on Friday: He threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns both to Jaire Richburg, he ran the ball into the end zone, and in one of the game’s highlights, he caught a touchdown pass from wide receiver J.P. Gilchrist on a trick play.

The R.J. Reynolds Demons swung the momentum back their way in the third quarter after some big yardage gains resulted in a touchdown, making it 46-14. They recovered an East Forsyth fumble soon after, but on their first possession, East Forsyth’s Jaylin Murry nabbed his second interception of the game and effectively exorcised the Demons.

“Keep on rolling,” Coach Willert told his team after their win.

East Forsyth extends its undefeated record to 8-0 with only two games left in the regular season. Friday, they will take a short bus ride to play Kernersville rival Glenn High School.
