Officials confirmed on Tuesday that work had been completed on a water main servicing the Thomas Water Treatment Plant after it failed a little more than a month ago. As a result of those repairs, locals might see some temporary changes to their tap water.
Although an announcement by Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities stressed that water will remain safe, it noted that testing and treatment efforts would continue until the supply has returned to normal.
Those who notice an unusual appearance in their tap water should avoid washing clothes with it due to possible staining. Otherwise, the statement asserted that such changes are “purely a matter of appearance” and do not constitute a violation of any federal water quality regulations.
Part of the ongoing project involves once again establishing the Yadkin River as the primary source for the Thomas Water Treatment Plant. Salem Lake currently serves that role.
