A pair of lucky locals will be receiving a tidy sum of cash just in time for the holidays.
According to a statement from the North Carolina Education Lottery, Kernersville resident Kelly Spahr picked up a winning Merry Multiplier scratch-off ticket when she stopped by the Quality Mart on Piney Grove Road to buy a drink.
The look and novelty of the $20 ticket, which just debuted this week, convinced Spahr to take a chance.
“The ticket has a folding part on it, which is what sold me on it,” she said.
Spahr became the first player to win the game’s $250,000 grand prize and, after taxes, walked away with $178,756.
The lottery also confirmed that a Powerball ticket sold at Circle K on Sedge Garden Road was a $50,000 winner.
