Many locals have been waiting for this moment for decades, and their patience is about to be rewarded.
A new Kernersville Parks and Recreation facility, which has been in the works since the 1970s and under construction since June 2023, will be open to the public for the first time on Saturday evening. The facility is located at the corner of Shields Road and Union Cross Road.
The celebration begins at 6:00 p.m. with remarks from local leaders, followed by self-guided tours of the center. Staff and instructors will be on hand to answer questions and the holiday-themed event will also feature Christmas music and plenty of photo opportunities.
In addition to a host of athletic and fitness programs, the new facility boasts a classroom, conference room, multipurpose room, an indoor walking track, administrative offices, and more. Reservations are expected to be available as of January 6.
For more information about the grand opening event, contact Recreation Superintendent Cady Ray by emailing cray@toknc.com or calling 336-992-0806.
Ray discussed the new center and many other department projects during her appearance on our podcast “Microscope with Chris Agee.”
