Local Circle K Fined For Price-Scanning Errors

Fourteen North Carolina retailers across a dozen counties — including one in Kernersville — have been fined by state regulators due to price-scanning errors discovered during recent inspections.

According to a statement from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Customer Service, stores found to have a 2% or higher overcharge rate receive additional scrutiny, including a more thorough inspection at a later date. Failing the follow-up inspection results in penalties and re-inspections continue until the error rate falls below that threshold.

A Circle K location at 1400 Union Cross Road was reportedly assessed a $1,895 fine after inspections in May, August, and October found 12%, 6%, and 9% overcharge rates, respectively.

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler issued a statement announcing the latest crackdown, explaining: “Our Standards Division remained committed to protecting consumers across the state. Our inspectors continue to find errors among price scanners at stores in the state, and consumers should be mindful. Take time to check your receipts and notify store managers if you find an error.”

Complaints about price-scanning errors can be reported to the division by calling 984-236-4750.
