One of Kernersville’s oldest businesses is marking its golden anniversary.
In addition to being selected as the Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Month in January, Young’s Florist at 508 North Main Street is celebrating 50 years in operation. Owner Tina Compton spoke to Scope News about its deep roots within her family and across the community.
“My aunt and uncle, they’re who started it,” she said. “And I feel like that way back in the day, in Kernersville, you know, it was a smaller town and they knew a lot of people. My uncle was in the fire department and stuff like that, and I think that my aunt and uncle cared, you know, about the community.”
Since florists often interact with customers at emotional moments in their lives, Compton said her uncle’s compassionate nature could be a source of comfort.
“It’s my goal to keep [those] family-oriented values,” she added.
Acknowledging that it has become more difficult to maintain those small-town connections as Kernersville continues to grow, Compton credited quality and craftsmanship for keeping Young’s Florist competitive.
“A lot of people that come here have come for years and they trust us,” she said. “And they know that, you know, we’ll do a good job.”
