Chants of “No fear, no hate, no ICE in our space!” and “Sí, se puede!” rang out through the night. Cheers erupted each of the many times a passing car honked in support.

Liliana Santos-Villejo, 26, organized the event after inquiring about possible Kernersville protests on a Facebook community group.

After receiving pushback in the comments and the post ultimately getting deleted, she said she received a wave of support.

“A whole bunch of people started messaging me saying, ‘we should start a protest, but make it peaceful.’ And I said OK, yes,“ Santos-Villejo told Scope News. “This was not only me, this was everyone here.”
