The North Carolina High School Association of Athletics released basketball playoff brackets on Sunday night.
Catholic high school Bishop McGuinness earned the No. 1 seed in both the men’s and women’s 1A tournament.
The men’s team finished the season with a 24-2 record and won the Northwest Piedmont conference championship. The Villains will face No. 32 Allegheny High School at home on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. They are looking to win their first championship since 2019 after losing starter Patrick Graves to a leg injury last week in the conference tournament.
The Bishop McGuinness women’s team also won its conference championship, ending the season with a record of 23-2. As the No. 1 seed, the Lady Villains will face No. 32 North Rowan High School at home on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Senior Adelaide Jernigan, who has averaged 27.1 points a game, hopes to lead the team to its first championship since 2023 and 12th title overall.
The North Carolina Leadership Academy earned the No. 21 seed in the 1A men’s tournament and will travel to Jamestown to face No. 12 College Prep and Leadership Academy on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
In the 4A tournament, both East Forsyth High School’s men’s and women’s teams made the cut picking up a No. 11 and No. 15 seed, respectively. The men will face No. 22 Olympic High School and the Lady Eagles will face No. 18 Northwest Guilford High School, both at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at home.
