New Local Bakery Serves Up Sweet Family Recipes

Doris Gutierrez opened the doors of Abby’s Bakes, 723 East Mountain Street, late last month and has been busy whipping up an assortment of pastries and cakes since then.

“I live in Greensboro, but my husband … used to live here in Kernersville, so he loved it,” she told Scope News. “When we wanted to open the bakery, we started looking for buildings to rent. My first choice was Greensboro, but he brought me here to know the town and I’m loving it. I love the people.”

Over the course of the past four months, she has been preparing for the grand opening and the opportunity to share recipes handed down to her from her father.

“My dad was a baker,” she said. “He had a bakery in High Point. So when he lived in Nacaragua, he started teaching me like a lot of baker stuff. So I love what I do, [and] with my husband’s help, he pushed me to open this and start working on what I love.”

Abby’s Bakes is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Click here for more information about the business.
