Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough provided a few details about the investigation, which was still underway at the time of his remarks.

At least one suspect was being interviewed at the time, he said, and the weapon had not yet been located.

As for the victim, Kimbrough said that the individual was transported to Brenner Children’s Hospital for treatment.

“It’s more than the physical part, it’s the psychological part that will linger, not only in this community, [it] will linger in our school system, and that’s the part that concerns me,” the sheriff said.

The sheriff and school district stressed that there was no ongoing threat to the public.
