Another fire erupted at Omnisource, 1426 West Mountain Street, fueling a funnel of smoke that darkened the sky for miles on Sunday.
Kernersville Police issued a statement confirming that a “large pile of scrap metal is burning” at the facility, urging locals to avoid the area for the rest of the evening if possible.
“We understand that this sort of thing attracts onlookers, and rightfully so,” the Kernersville Police Department added. “However, please know that the large volume of traffic currently on West Mountain Street can slow the efforts of assisting fire department agencies responding to help.”
