Downtown Shop To Host First ‘Cars & Cards’ Event

After several months in business, the owners of Gate City Geeks are preparing for something a little different this weekend at the downtown collectibles shop.

Jennifer Welch spoke to Scope News about how she and co-owner Brad Iddings combined two of their personal interests into an event they can share with the community.

“Me and my fiance are also in the car scene,” she said, referencing the colorful vehicles often parked outside the shop at 251 South Main Street.

“There’s a lot of people that stop in and it’s like, you know, ‘I see your cars outside, I’ve got this type of car,’” Welch added. “It’s just something that we kind of brought together — something new that would draw attention to the city and hopefully it becomes a continuous event that we can do.”

Noting that car show culture has suffered in the post-COVID era, Welch said Sunday’s “Cars & Cards” is their way of trying to revive it. Collectors will also be buying, selling, and trading cards nearby, bringing attention to the assortment of items on display inside the shop.

Food vendors will be on the premises during the event, which will last from about noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Click here for more information.
