Town Seeks Community Input For Comprehensive Plan Project

Locals are encouraged to share their thoughts as part of an effort to create a “comprehensive plan” for Kernersville’s future. An online survey and an upcoming open house provide two early opportunities to participate.

Senior Planner Brad Rentz spoke to Scope News about the project, describing the resulting plan as “a guidebook for decision-making over the next 15 to 20 years for the town.”

He explained that the “plan will be shaped by the community’s vision and relies on their input,” so the more locals involved, the better.

“So we’re asking them to visit PlanKernersville.com but also come out to these events like the open house coming up on Tuesday to share their vision and input for the future,” Rentz said.

Phase 1 kicks off with an assessment of community conditions on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden, 215 South Main Street. From there, the expected timeline will include a review of the community vision and goals this summer, preliminary recommendations this fall, and the creation and adoption of the plan by next spring.

Rentz explained that the town is beginning with a holistic approach to soliciting input.

“At this point, it’s really community-wide,” he added. “If we see through the data that we gather, just through the survey but also through some maps we have online, that we’re not getting parts of the community, we might have some more targeted events in the future.”
