Suspect Arrested After Shooting At South Main Food Lion

A suspect was arrested on Saturday on charges related to a shooting the previous evening at the Food Lion at 980 South Main Street, according to authorities.

Lee Donnell Smith Jr., 39, “was taken into custody by the Kernersville Police Department and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office SWAT teams,” a KPD update revealed.

Two victims, identified as 32-year-old Malik Battle and 31-year-old Synadia Battle, were reportedly found at the scene at around 7:12 p.m. with gunshot wounds to their lower extremities. They were transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Smith is facing multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm within an enclosure, and shooting into an occupied dwelling. He was booked into the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond.

Police said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and the general public is in no ongoing danger. Anyone with information related to the crime is encouraged to contact the KPD Criminal Investigations Division by calling 336-996-3177.
