Failed Fraud Attempt Nets Arrest Of Fugitive, Police Say

A routine fraud call at Piedmont Federal Bank turned into a major arrest when Kernersville police took two suspects into custody — one of whom is wanted on more than two dozen felony charges across North Carolina and Tennessee.

Authorities reported that the two suspects, identified as 26-year-old Kailyn Brown of Wilmington, and John Plasse, 58, of Massachusetts, were inside the bank when officers arrived, allegedly with the intent to cash a fraudulent check.

In addition to charges related to the local incident, including identity theft, two counts of obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to commit a felony, and resisting, delaying, or obstructing, Plasse also faces 11 outstanding warrants — including more than two dozen felony charges — across the state and a fugitive warrant from Tennessee. He was denied bond and is expected to face extradition to Tennessee.

Brown was placed in custody with bond set at $1,600. She faces counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and felony aiding and abetting larceny.
