Caribou Coffee opened for business last week after facing delays of more than a year. The Minnesota-based chain is located at 3991 Rosewater Avenue, just off Union Cross Road across from Bojangles.

“It started in Minnesota … but we’ve definitely expanded a lot through the South,” general manager Lexy Hairston told Scope News. “This is our [21st] store in North Carolina — we’ve had a huge expansion this past year.”

The coffeehouse serves up handcrafted beverages, teas, and energy drinks as well as breakfast sandwiches and baked goods. Open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the storefront features drive-thru service, exterior dining, and a pick-up window. There is no indoor seating. 

“The store has been in the works for almost a year and a half,” Hairston said. “It was actually supposed to open in May of last year so we’re glad to finally be open. I have an amazing team. We would not be successful without this team.”

Caribou Coffee’s ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for Friday at 10:00 a.m. Juno’s Ice Cream Truck and Lumi & Luxe Salon and Spa will be on site giving away free samples. 

According to a press release, on Saturday and Sunday “Caribou Coffee is donating $1 per transaction to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to support the funding of childhood brain cancer research to cure the kids, support the families affected by this disease, and advocate for policies that help patients survivors, and their loved ones.” 

The grand opening promotions continue through next week as follows:

• Friday: Free flower bouquet from Piney Grove Flower Farm starting at 11 a.m., while supplies last
• Saturday-Sunday: Giveback weekend for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, plus 50 bonus points (valid for 30 days) to Caribou Perks members with purchase
• Monday: 50% off a beverage with the purchase of an All Day Breakfast or Lunch sandwich
• Tuesday: Free reusable iced coffee cup sleeve to the first 100 guests, while supplies last
• Wednesday: 50% off mocha beverages
• Thursday: 50% off energy drinks
