Kiwanis Club Spreads Valentine’s Cheer To Local Seniors

A local civic organization and small business are teaming up to make Valentine’s Day a little brighter for area seniors.

A new romantic comedy by playwright Scott Icenhower, running now through Feb. 22 at Stained Glass Playhouse in Winston-Salem.

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Kernersville will deliver handmade cards Friday to residents at Arbor Ridge and Kerner Ridge assisted living communities. The cards were created during a recent Kiwanis meeting as part of what organizers hope will become an annual outreach effort.

Leigh Cannon, owner of Bricks & Minifigs Kernersville, and Cindy Stewart are scheduled to deliver cards in person. In addition to the club’s efforts, Bricks & MInifigs expanded the initiative by setting up a card-decorating station inside the store at 960-G South Main Street. Customers who create a card receive a 10% discount on select purchases.

Cannon said the goal was to give families a fun, creative activity while encouraging them to give back to the community.
