Museum Administrator Heidi Tufte welcomed the crowd and reflected on the significance of the moment.

Noting that she was “blown away” by the strong turnout, she added: “I’m very proud of our town for its importance of preservation and what it does to preserve our sites and our town in general.”

She thanked town staff, elected officials, and community supporters for their role in the project.

Mayor Dawn Morgan echoed that sentiment, adding that the museum’s growth reflects years of commitment by everyone involved.

“When we had the museum in the other building, it just became apparent to me that the level of support in the community for preserving Kernersville’s history,” she said. “We all know this is a very special town, and it’s fun to share the story with other generations.”

Morgan highlighted the educational impact the expanded museum is expected to have, particularly for visiting school groups and families. She pointed to the museum’s prominent location near the intersection of Main and Cherry streets as especially fitting.

“This is a place that’s rooted and steeped in history,” Morgan added. “It’s just a joy to be here and celebrate this occasion with all of you.”

Parks and Recreation Director Ernie Pages also praised the effort, calling the museum an important space for sharing community stories and traditions.

“Heidi’s done an incredible job preserving history and putting this all together,” he said.

The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the front porch of the historic Morris House, 109 South Cherry Street.
