The North Carolina primary election results are nearly determined with races concerning the U.S. Senate, state legislature, and a crowded Board of Education field all setting up the November elections.
CNN reported Roy Cooper and Michael Whatley are projected to win their respective races for U.S. Senate. Ballots are still being counted as of this writing; Cooper leads the Democratic primary with 92.59% and Whatley leads the Republican primary with 67.32%.
100% of precincts are reporting, however, provisional votes and absentee ballots have not all been counted.
Democrat Ashley Bell and Republican Pat Harrigan won their respective District 10 U.S. House of Representatives primaries.
In the candidate-packed Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education race, Democratic incumbent Richard Watts and Republican incumbents Steve Wood and Susan Miller are unlikely to retain their seats. Current board members Trevonia Brown-Gaither and Alex Bohannon, both Democrats, are expected to remain on the board for another term. Robert Barr is in a tight Republican primary race for District 2.
