The free event, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Kernersville, is scheduled for March 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The Crossing Church, 1130 North Main Street. This marks its fifth year and the first at a larger venue to accommodate growing crowds.

“When we started this, one of our goals was to provide a fun, interactive community event that was free,” event co-chair Debra Johnson told Scope News. “And we can say that we have been able to do this and actually grow and improve the event each year.”

Touch-a-Truck allows attendees to explore a wide variety of vehicles, from trucks to service vehicles to heavy equipment, while meeting many of the professionals who operate them. Children can climb inside many of the vehicles, learn how they work, and even honk the horns, Johnson added.

“Businesses and the community bring their vehicles and donate their time to show the kids how they work and explain what they do,” she said.

Organizers say the annual event typically draws between 40 and 45 vehicles, with the lineup changing from year to year. Among the additional attractions will be a free children’s book giveaway, distributed as part of the Kiwanis Club’s literacy initiatives, a food cut featuring local food trucks, activities designed for kids, and prizes. A portion of food truck sales will be donated back to the club to support its community programs.

The Crossing Church will also be hosting an Easter egg hunt during the festivities.

Shuttle service from nearby parking areas may be available.

Johnson said sponsorships have also helped the event continue to grow, recognizing Brightspeed and John Deere as this year’s primary sponsors. Admission is free, but organizers say donations are welcome and will help support children’s programs in Kernersville.

From volunteers to donors to attendees from across the Triad, Johnson said the ongoing success of Touch-a-Truck & More is “largely because of the community itself.”
