Long Island-Inspired Downtown Deli Celebrates Grand Opening

A deli is once again in operation at 234 North Main Street, the former home of Deli on Main.

New York natives Steven and Erica Maier participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Damn Yankees Deli and Catering on Tuesday morning after serving a limited number of guests during a soft opening.

“This has been the most warming, exciting, there’s so many words for it — it just feels so right,” Steven Maier said ahead of the grand opening.

While he has been involved in a number of short-term business ventures throughout his career, he said he views this one differently.

“I don’t think I’m selling this one,” he explained. “This is our last run and this is going to be around for at least 10, 15, 20 years.”

As for what customers can expect, Maier described it as the food he was accustomed to enjoying in New York but was unable to find since moving to this area.

“We’re trying to make y’all some really good Long Island food,” he said. “We opened this place because we can’t find this anywhere.”
