One Kernersville business is launching a community-wide scavenger hunt in hopes of increasing foot traffic to local shops and encouraging collaboration through the summer months.
Bricks & Minifigs, located at 960-A South Main Street, plans to kick off the event on May 1 to coincide with the Amanzi Marble and Granite Spring Folly. It is scheduled to continue through Labor Day.
The first weekend in May means one thing in Kernersville…
According to owner Leigh Cannon, participants will be invited to follow clues posted on a dedicated Facebook page, visit participating businesses, and scan QR codes to check in at each stop.
Visits will count as entries into monthly prize drawings with baskets made up of items from businesses involved in the promotion.
Cannon said the idea is to create a simple, low-pressure way for families to explore Kernersville while driving engagement with local small businesses.
“We wanted to create something that puts local businesses on the map — literally,” Cannon said. “When families come through your door to scan a QR code, that’s a real connection, not just a click.”
Kernersville businesses are invited to sign on as stops along the route, either joining for the duration of the event or only during certain periods. Each participating business is asked to contribute to the monthly prize baskets.
In return, Cannon said businesses will be promoted on social media and benefit from increased visibility throughout the summer. Participating locations will also receive a list of visitors who check in, allowing for follow-up communication.
In addition to storefronts, organizers are open to incorporating parks and other public spaces and say the Kernersville Police Department has expressed an interest in serving as a check-in location.
Cannon described the event as “a reason to explore your own backyard” and discover “a local business you might not have walked into before.”
