Days after 1756 brought you the story behind the Dab Burris Classic planned for Memorial Day weekend at Baby Bristol Speedway, Mother Nature had different plans.
Heavy rain forced organizers to postpone the event, which would have also served as the Grassroots Karting League’s second-ever points race. League founder Teddy Burris told Scope News that the race has been rescheduled for June 6, while the Dab Burris Classic honoring his late uncle, will take place separately on July 25.
As we previously reported, Burris describes the Classic as a tribute tied to a family legacy stretching back generations to the early NASCAR-era competition.
The Grassroots Karting League itself has been building momentum since bringing life back to the once-dormant oval off Peddycord Road. Burris credits the interest to his focus on accessibility, including low entry costs, a family-friendly atmosphere, and events for racers of all ages and experience levels.
Next week’s race day will follow a full schedule, with gates opening at 9:00 a.m. followed by mid-morning practice sessions. Heat and feature races will commence through the afternoon.
