America is turning 250 and the Kiwanis Club of Kernersville is bringing a preview of the Independence Day celebration to Downtown Kernersville with the 43rd annual Miss Mary’s Parade this week.
Families are invited to gather at the Town Hall courtyard, 134 E. Mountain St., beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, with festivities kicking off shortly thereafter. Children are encouraged to dress in their patriotic best for the occasion.

The morning schedule includes a variety of free activities, including a bounce house, lawn games, a Lego play area, and a craft station. The Kiwanis Club will also be distributing free children’s books.
A dance party is set for 10:15, followed by the crowning of Miss Fourth of July and the parade procession at 10:30. Families are encouraged to bring strollers or wagons as they follow the courtyard route.
Mayor Dawn Morgan will serve as the emcee.
Among the organizations scheduled to set up at the event are the Kernersville Fire Rescue Department along with Sparky the Fire Dog, the Joseph Kerner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution with free American flags for kids, and the Crossing Church offering complimentary bottled water.

Children can stay cool with a complimentary ice cream, provided by Caudill’s Commercial Electric. There will also be ice cream available to purchase for adults. Attendees will find several themed photo opportunities, provided by Kernersville Little Theatre, the Kernersville Auto Museum, and Fountain of Life Preschool.
This year’s commemorative T-shirt features artwork by Caleb’s Creek Elementary School student Lucas Uribe. The first 175 children receive a free shirt, compliments of H&R Block.
The parade is scheduled to conclude at around 11 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the crowning ceremony and parade will move inside Town Hall.
