Dine Out, Give Back: Eating For Education Returns Wednesday

One of the community’s simplest and most impactful ways to give back to the community is returning this week.

Eating for Education, which directly supports the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce education grant program, kicks off its summer run on Wednesday with residents invited to support local teachers just by dining out.

A portion of all proceeds, up to 10%, will fund classroom grants. The program funded 28 grants last school year, with seven more later funded through the action of the Board of Aldermen.

As Chamber education committee co-chair Kim Herman told Scope News, the initiative began with just three grants, including one at the elementary, middle, and high school level. Today, the program supports educators across 13 schools throughout the Kernersville area.

“We’ve actually raised the grant amount from $500 to $1,000,” Herman explained. “The teachers appreciate them so much.”

She emphasized that “100% of what is raised goes right back to teachers in the community,” meaning locals have an opportunity to make a real difference just by visiting one of the participating businesses on the second Wednesday of each month this summer.

“Come out,” she said. “Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert — all the things. There’s something for everyone.”
