Driver Shot After Allegedly Pointing Gun At Officers: KPD

According to a Kernersville Police Department statement, a 29-year-old woman is facing multiple felony counts after a late-night traffic stop Tuesday.

Officials indicate the incident occurred around 11:16 p.m. on South Main Street when an officer spotted a vehicle weaving across lanes and speeding. After initiating a stop near Old Winston Road, officers reported that the driver repeatedly refused their commands.

The report states that officers forced entry into the vehicle, at which point the driver allegedly pointed a handgun at them. Both officers discharged their weapons, according to the statement, and the driver was struck in the shoulder.  

The suspect, Destiny Sanyee Fewell, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and faces a range of criminal charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder. She was placed in custody without bond and the State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to review the incident.

KPD indicated that the incident was captured on body cameras worn by the officers involved. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Lt. Sanchez at 336-996-3000.
