A quarter-century after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Kernersville residents will gather at Fourth of July Park to remember those who lost their lives and reflect on the impact of that day. 

The local event is set for Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the park, located at 702 W. Mountain Street. In case of rain, it will be held at the Farmer’s Market at 134 E. Mountain St.

Pastor Carol E. Fulton, chair of the Kernersville Christian Ministers Fellowship, told Scope News that the event will incorporate those who remember the attack firsthand and a generation born after 9/11.

The ceremony will include a color guard, a large American flag display, and remarks from local leaders.

“There will be singing,” she added, noting local students and others who “weren’t even born then” will be participating.

In addition to the fellowship, Fulton said the event is being sponsored by the Kernersville Police Department and Kernersville Fire Rescue Department. 

The gathering is free and open to the public.
