‘Hockey For Hunger’ Aims To Relaunch Front Yard Food Pantry

Sunshine Creations hopes to fill the stands at the Greensboro Gargoyles’ opening night game next week with a goal of turning ticket sales into $10,000 for local families in need.

The “Hockey for Hunger” fundraiser will take place Friday at First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro. The game begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $20 each.

In partnership with the team, Sunshine Creations has a goal of selling 1,000 tickets to the game, which would bring the organization $10,000 to support its plans to bring back a front yard food pantry opened last holiday season at 1850 Teague Ln. The proceeds would also fund a free Christmas toy shop where parents can select holiday gifts for their children.

Next week’s game also coincides with World Food Day, and April Knapp of Sunshine Creations said she hopes to be able to reopen the food pantry by Nov. 15.

In addition to those who want to watch the game themselves, she said the organization hopes supporters, including corporate sponsors, will purchase tickets to give to local families and students who might not otherwise be able to attend.

With approximately 800 tickets left to sell before reaching the goal, Knapp said the fundraiser offers a unique opportunity to connect the community through a shared outreach experience.
