Police Chase Leads To Drug, Theft Charges: KPD

A high-speed pursuit involving a vehicle traveling in excess of 110 miles per hour led to the arrest of two people on a series of drug, theft, and traffic charges, according to a statement released Monday by the Kernersville Police Department.

Officers reportedly attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver sped away. Police said they ultimately discontinued the pursuit due to the fleeing vehicle’s speed and other unsafe maneuvers.

The vehicle was later located and authorities identified Vaughn Marie Nall as its passenger. She was allegedly found in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. Further investigation led to the recovery of stolen merchandise and the vehicle was seized pursuant to state law, according to the department.

Police later identified the driver as Charles Thomas Phillips and determined that he had stolen beer from a nearby Sheetz convenience store shortly before the pursuit. He was also identified as the suspect in a separate theft from the same business just days earlier.

Warrants were reportedly obtained charging Phillips with felony fleeing to elude arrest and felony obstruction of justice, along with multiple misdemeanor traffic offenses. He also faces two counts each of misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen goods, among other infractions.

Nall was charged with felony possession of cocaine, aiding and abetting, and two counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, along with resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer.
