Kiwanis Marks Teacher Appreciation With Break Room Snack Baskets

As part of National Teacher Appreciation Week, the Kiwanis Club of Kernersville once again recognized local educators with a mix of signs and practical gifts.

Signs placed at schools across the area are intended to remind students and the broader community to take a moment to express their appreciation for teachers.

The civic organization also delivered snack baskets to each of the nine elementary schools in and around Kernersville, giving teachers something to enjoy during their breaks.

“Our school reps will go out and we’ve presented the schools with the baskets,” Kiwanian Debra Johnson told Scope News. “They’ll go into the teacher break rooms so that the teachers can just sit down and be able to enjoy a snack.”

Each school is supported by a Kiwanis liaison, which is part of the group’s ongoing involvement and includes maintaining book cabinets on multiple campuses.

“We want to make sure that people recognize the teachers, to be able to thank them for what they’re doing,” Johnson added. “We’re just trying to heighten awareness.”

On that note, she encouraged community members to take part in their own way: “If they have kids in school, just have their kids maybe write their teachers a little note or something. That would be really appreciated.”

The effort is less about the gesture itself, she said, and more about reinforcing a culture of appreciation.
