Residents in Kernersville, Walkertown, and Winston-Salem reported water issues late Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning. Problems ranging from low water pressure to no water at all interrupted residents getting ready for work and forced some Kernersville businesses to close.
Some Kernersville residents received a notification of water interruption during business hours today due to scheduled work, but the outage is much larger than the designated areas.
The City of Winston-Salem, which controls water service for surrounding areas, provided a message Wednesday morning advising that it “is currently experiencing a citywide water outage” and workers “are aware of the issue and are currently working to restore water as soon as possible.”
Here’s a subsequent statement with additional details:
In a social media statement, the Town of Kernersville confirmed that it was “aware of a possible waterline break affecting the east side of the county, including Kernersville and portions of Walkertown.”
Town staff remains in contact with utilities providers, asserting that they are “aware of the issue and actively working to resolve it.”
When water service is restored, officials urge residents to “boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water,” advising that “vigorous boiling” for at least 60 seconds “should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.”
The advisory will remain in effect until further notice and residents are encouraged to conserve water.
The town noted that it will share updates online as they become available. Check back with Scope News for more information.
