A 33-year-old man was reportedly taken into custody this week after police say he walked through a local apartment complex while wielding a sword and threatening residents.
According to the Kernersville Police Department, officers responded to multiple calls on Tuesday reporting an armed individual creating a disturbance. During the incident, the suspect identified as Hayden Mowery allegedly damaged a neighbor’s outdoor furniture and made verbal threats.
The statement further alleged that Mowery then barricaded himself inside an apartment and refused repeated commands from authorities.
KPD’s SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were called in to assist. After negotiations and other tactical efforts, policy say Mowery voluntarily exited the apartment and was taken into custody without further incident.
He was transported to the Forsyth County Detention Center where he received a $1,000 secured bond. He faces criminal counts of malicious injury to personal property and communicating threats.
Additional details were not immediately available.
