While the North Carolina Department of Agriculture has treated target areas in and around town, officials encourage residents to help control the population by killing the insects and trapping their eggs. This time of year is crucial for targeting the spotted lanternfly egg masses found on trees and other outdoor surfaces.
Kernersville residents can sign up to receive one of the free lampshade-style trap kits for use on trees measuring about 6 to 8 inches in diameter at a height of 4 feet.
