Kernersville is about to revive a celebration of community spirit that dates back more than four decades.
Longtime Mayor Roger P. Swisher issued a proclamation in 1983 that declared the first week of November “I Love Kernersville Week.”

Next week, the town is bringing the tradition back into the spotlight with a kickoff celebration at Town Hall, 134 E. Mountain St., on Monday. The event begins at 4 p.m., with Mayor Dawn Morgan on hand to read the original proclamation and issue a new one.

Huntington Bank is sponsoring the event with a surprise in store for attendees.
Kernersville Museum administrator Heidi Tufte said the tradition remains unfamiliar to many residents despite its long history.
“Most people don’t know that this is even a thing,” she said. “I’ve had the proclamation in here since we opened and a lot of people miss it and still don’t even see it.”
Monday’s event is free and open to the public. Residents are encouraged to prioritize local businesses throughout next week as part of the celebration of our community.
